Mini Lathe

Current Lead Time:

The lead time for a new order is around 8 to 10 weeks. Because of this, there is no need to use Paypal to get on the waiting list. Just send an email with the model and options you would like. I prefer this method. We could settle up just before your order ships. Feel free to ask about the status of your order or the availability of your particular model at any time via email.

What's New:

We are still developing the overhead mounting systems. There have been several minotr changes during the R&D of these to make them better. Each change adds a bit more time, but we should have something to show in the next couple weeks. If you want to get on the interested list for information about these when it becomes available, just send an email.

Thank you for your interest.

First Day

This is a surpisingly strong little machine. Here are a few images and thoughts about this machine after its initial arrival and fiddling session.

It arrived safely

I had been anticipating its arrival and it was exciting to see it sitting in my shop. Good to see that the Lathe made the trip from China with only a broken fuse. This is an expendable item anyay. This is a shot of the lathe as it came out of the box. The next image shows its accessories. The protective film cleaned off easily with a little WD40 and the rag in the photo.

Checking it out and setting it up

It was good to see the Logo of Nothern Tool rather than the Lestamp Logo that was shown on the Website. I don't know why, it just was. The Logo has a protective plastic film. The machine looked okay, finish wise. Not the best paint job that I have seen, but certainly sufficiently coated.
It was apparent to me almost immediately, that the black chip guard on the back had to be removed. I could see how this would simply get in my way. It was slightly bent toward the machine. It could have been fixed, but I removed it and used it as a shelf in the corner above the lathe. I made a dedicated area for the lathe anyway. This would catch the chips and make them accesible to vacuum up.

Getting ready for the first turning

I cut off and chucked up a 1" diameter piece of steel shafting for the test run. I had already went through the manual and adjusted and checked and what not. Pretty hard stuff, I would think.
It came out fine. I guess this is a chess piece or a paper weight. If its a paper weight, then I am done. If it's a chess piece, then only 31 more to go. I think the lathe could handle it though. It cut rather well just right out of the box. I think it is a keeper.
